| The
Halcyon 60 Build Project Proves Fast and Flawless |
 |

Halcyon
60'
|
| In
the huge shed, the sprawling Halcyon
60 manages to dwarf
even Horst
Annas towering frame as he
patiently dabs flat a recurring tiny
bubble on the starboard transom. Such
attention to detail is a trademark of Horsts work
and is duly reflected in the quality
of vessels he produces. |
| This
uncompromising demand for perfection
has even seen him pull all workers off
one particular project and finish the
boat himself when work was proving less
than meticulous! Ian
Willet is just as fastidious
and the perfect accomplice for Horsts building
ventures, the pair creating quite a track
record for speedily constructed, beautiful
boats which seem destined to continue
growing in size! (There’s casual
mention of an 80’er in
the air …and without the restraints
of lengthy build times, such a mammoth
job is rendered far more feasible and
infinitely more enjoyable….80’? What
the hell - make it 100’!)
But for now, all focus is on the first Halcyon
60 and the lightning
pace of construction continues to amaze.
It’s taken just 12 weeks for this
immense creation to go from stacks of
Duflex and barrels of resin to fully
faired hull, decks and topsides with
twin Isuzu
30hp fitted and |

even some internal furnishings completed.
All this with a mere manpower of two!
Lucky owner, Doug
Fryer has been on site whenever
possible. Some modifications have been
affected to suit his personal living
tastes and cruising needs, including
storage provision for his 250cc Offroad
Honda in the starboard engine room! Dougs
enjoyed seeing his new home grow from
start to finish and will soon be cruising Australia and
beyond in unsurpassed comfort.
(For those who haven’t been following the Halcyons development,
the boat is a Bob Oram/ Horst Anna collaboration
that’s 60’ of pure cruising decadence with
carbon fibre, Uni Rig and absolutely every conceivable extra including
extensive instrumentation and even the dinghy for just $695,000
AUS. A power version is also available at $650,000)
Completion date is just three or four months away - but Horst says ‘…the
next one will be quicker…’ One wonders whether they have some
twilight zoned help expected from beyond or simply plan to work non stop
day and night - but with the genius of Duflex, ATLs amazing equipment and
cleverly planned panels, along with and the determination of Horst and Ian themselves,
anything’s possible.
If you happen to be in Airlie Beach, ring Emultihulls.com for
a mud map and pop in to the shed. Visitors are always welcome - but be
prepared to walk and talk (or chat and climb!) - Halcyon
Hyper Mode will no doubt be engaged as the finishing touches
are sped flawlessly towards sailaway. ( …And then there’s that 100’er awaiting
construction … with a completion deadline of one month!) |
